Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation
Phuket Has Been Good To Us Foundation works to improve the economic opportunities and life chances of young people by funding and implementing high-quality, practical English language education.
Established after the 2004 Asian Tsunami, Phuket Has Been Good To Us (PHBGTU) is a Thai registered charity. We teach English for free to 1,200 children aged 3 to 18 in three Thai Government schools in Phuket. Our 7 qualified and experienced English teachers teach English classes as part of the Thai school curriculum. We help Thai children become capable and confident English speakers so that they can secure well-paid employment.
In Kamala, at the RPG 36 School (Kings Fund School), we teach English classes to 800 students aged 5 to 18 as well as science and mathematics in English to the children in their first, second and third year of primary school. At the Anubaan Kamala School in Kamala village, we teach English to 280 kindergarten children aged 3 to 6.
At Kalim School we teach English to 100 children aged 5 to 12. There are 170 children who live full time at the RGP 36 School in Kamala as they are orphans or their families are not able to look after them. PHBGTU English Teachers and volunteers run an afterschool programme, Coconut Club, where these children have fun with arts and crafts or sports.
On Saturdays, we have a reading group and swimming classes. We receive no Government funding but rely on the generosity of businesses and kind individuals to pay our teachers’ salaries and donations to provide our teaching supplies. For more information, please visit our website and Facebook page.
